Wiping A Phone Clean

My apology if my question has been addressed in another thread(s) I did not find. How do you wipe a phone completely clean? My husband has a new job w/ phone, so we want to get rid of his Charge. I have a DInc that I plan on shedding before year's end, and I too want to make sure all personal info, pics etc. are off. Do I just learn how to restore to factory setting & remove the sd card? Obviously I'm not tech savy, so please explain for the smartphone dummy. Thank you very much!

what adam said, factory reset is the way to go.

Make sure to format the SD card as well.
