see thats the thing, people on these forums haved more or less called me a thief. but in all fairness, verizon charges you a premium for a service your phone is capable of out of the box, on top of your data package, AND limit how much you can use while tethering and charge you further if you go over that. i should know...i work for them as a wireless specialist and inventory manager >.>. if i had decently affordable or fast internet to actually get, it would be one thing, but everything else around here is too expensive or too slow for the price...

Amen! Anyone who thinks that bypassing Verizon and using our phones as free WiFi hotspots is stealing needs to GTFO.

I have not been able to get it working. It worked fine on my OG Droid but not on the Rezound. I have v3.1 Beta 10, have MSS CLamping and Routing Fix checked but it just sits at "Please wait while starting". Anyone have any ideas?

Since being unlocked and perm rooted, has anyone gotten WiFi Tether or Barnacle WiFi Tether working? I tried both and it seems to work on my phone, but when I go to connect to either my laptop just hangs while trying to connect.

Try dropping down a version or two. Version 2.0.7 works without playing with anything. Any version above that may be hit or miss.

Well I got it working. I had a few problems. First, I changed the settings in Superuser because I noticed that it was getting denied. For some reason, the screen was blasting by so fast, I didn't have a time to click accept allowing superuser access. That got me by the launching screen but I was getting no WiFi signal. I'm not sure how I fixed that. I tried switching channels and went through all the other settings and I got it working but I'm not sure which setting fixed it.

You can run AP mode with this version? Any special settings or just hit start?

Just throwing it out there cause it worked great for me. I don't really need tethering unless i'm traveling (rare) I Cable Internet at Home. I have 4g Phone (obviously)

But check out 'Open Garden Wifi'. Lots of options, easy to use etc.

Can you do a wired tether without root, and without paying verizon? Need occasional connection, just doesn't have to be wireless.

As long as you're not abusing it you can get away with wired or wireless tether. The people that are running their entire houses on tether are the ones that usually get caught.

First time on a forum. Never had problems before with free wifi till my Rezound. I too, ran the beta 3.1 version and couldn't get encryption. I unistalled with astro file mgr., then reinstalled 2.07. It started up great on my handset, with encryption running, but my laptop doesn't recognize it. I tried changing many options, but to no avail. I am curious if anyone has heard of using the SQLite Editor. This is the program I ran on my Bionic. After changing some settings you actually use Verizon's mobile hotspot for free.

If you're on gingerbread, grab the latest beta and it works in infrastructure mode.
If you're on ICS any version beyone 3.1-beta11 works in infrstructure mode.

Set the profile to Galaxy Nexus(CMDA)
Enable routing fix.

Oh...and...uh.. you never heard this from me.

all these were 3.1 beta 11
On stock rooted I was never able to get it to work
on ICS I followed the setting from ICSE CleanRom3.1 and it worked
on Gingerbread CleanROM 1.7, I followed the same settings for ICS and it starts, however, none of my devices see it..

I set it device profile to Samsung Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE
Set up method is set Netd (master)
Routing fix enabled
(separately) I tried also MSS clamping enabled

it says ready, i get no errors, I just cannot get the SSID to be seen.

I tried 2.07 and SSID is broadcasted but I get no internet connection on connected device.

Awesome

Thank you very much for this information... I was having major problems setting up the wifi tethering for my rezound and this has made it work. I'm a newbie so I am grateful that there are people out there teaching others about the android system. I currently have an ICS ROM with Sense (a newtoroot ROM). Anyway, thanks.

None of the Wifi-Tethers support infrastructure mode, seems only the stock mobile hotspot does.

Wifi tether works just fine on ICS Roms and from everything I know on GB Roms now as well. I know it works on mine.
