did you edit the permissions?

The current permissions are 644

What I meant was the current user permissions. In root explorer click mount r/w and long press on wifi tether and click permissions. Then check all user permissions (read write and execute)

Ok so they should be 744, not 644, then?

I changed the permissions to 744 (rwxr--r--) and it still force closes after a reboot.
