Wi-fi problems

So every now and then, my phone is unable to connect to some wi-fi network or another, for no apparent reason. I disable/re-enable, I long-press, connect, nothing, until I re-submit all of the authentication information, which is no different than what it was before.

Instead of me just guessing as to the problem, doesn't Android store somewhere why the connection failed?

I would also like an answer to this question. I really don't want to do a reset every time, my son has no problem connecting wit his droid. My charge connects sometimes.
