whats the best equivalent we have to an ipod dock?

I paired my droid to my receiver via bluetooth.

not really looking to go the 1000s of dollars, non portable, no speaker phone route...

No such thing. There's no dock connector on the Droid. You'd have to plug whatever solution into the headphone jack. I'd suggest looking into a solution with bluetooth A2DP or connecting a bluetooth stereo gateway to some powered speakers/radio/stereo/whatever.
