Whatcha up too?

Kindle fire 7in

I'd definitely go with the Nexus 7 over the 7" Kindle Fire. A pure Android tablet with fast, direct updates straight from Google that has access to the Play Store with twice the memory in the base model versus a heavily skinned tablet with lesser specs that doesn't have native access to the Play Store. It's not even close to being a contest between those two. For $40 more on the base model, you're getting a heck of a lot more from the Nexus 7 than you could ever dream of getting from the Fire.

I just need it for browsing and for movies.

Still the Nexus 7 then. :)

Anyone who's been around Android and these forums as much as you have will probably find themselves getting frustrated with the limitations of the Fire (especially the base model) pretty quickly when compared to the Nexus 7 if they're using it as their only tablet. And you might start off with just browsing and movies, but then you'll end up wanting to do a lot more.

Yup, I'm with bsweetness... I do everything between my tablet & my phone so much that I barely touch the pc or the laptop. That pc & laptop see me maybe once a month, if that. It is awesome having the freedom & not being tethered to those things.

Well cant i root it? I heard i can even put jb on it.

Yeah, you can root and do some things with the Fire, but not nearly as much or as easily as you can with the Nexus.

It would be one thing if the price difference was hundreds of dollars, but when you're looking at a $40 difference between the base Fire and the base Nexus, it's really a no brainer. If I didn't have that extra $40, I'd wait to buy one until I did have it. It's really a huge difference in hardware and software for a minimal financial difference overall.
