What to do in the future

So I just flashed my first custom ROM (GJar is glorious!) and I was wondering what I need to do later on when there is an update for DX in the future.

Do I have to reflash my nandroid backup, do the official OTA update, and then reflash an updated version of a custom ROM?

All original software/apps need to be in place for the OTA to work.
