What the heck? Droid Incredible commercial uses same "droooiiid" sound?

As a sales and marketing guy, I love to see the full effect of Branding on the consumer. But Damn, lets not start killing our own tribe members.

Have to say that with the fanboys for a particular phone model, the fanboys for a particular phone manufacturer, the fanboys for a particular wireless carrier, and the fanboys for a particular operating system the slicing and dicing of the universe or those interested in one or another variation of all of these gets to very tiny slices.

How can the HTC Incredible commercial use the same "droid" sound we all know and love? I thought for sure this would be copyrighted by Motorola.
First of all, you can't copyright a word. Droid is a trademark.

Second, even before the Motorola Droid was released it was announced that Droid would be a line of Android devices carried by Verizon as well as a flagship device from Motorola. It's very old news that you might want to Google.
Not only that, but Moto/Google are using it and all... but it belongs to someone you might know. from a galaxy near, nearby:
"The "Droid" word is a registered trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd."
"Motorola's late-2009 Google Android-based cell phone is also called the Droid. The term is used under license from Lucasfilm."

Throw ROM's into that mix as well.! :yeahbaby01:

So the "Droid" Incredible stole "Droid Does"

Anyone see the latest Incredible commercial? Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the "Droid" name was exclusively for the Motorola Droid phones?

The new Incredible commercial says "Droid Does" at the end of the commercial with the exact same font/colors as the Motorola Droid commercials.

I'm just more curious than anything.

Someone licensed the term "Droid" from LucasFilm, so it's likely that they're just trying to milk it for all they can.

the incredible is officially called the droid incredible. vzw is using that name now for every android phone. they paid so much money for the name, they might as well milk it.

Nope. It was announced even before the Motorola Droid was released that Droid was to be a line of Droid devices from Verizon.

Did you somehow miss Droid Eris and Droid Incredible in the product names as well? ;)

I think it is excellent. Verizon has a good thing going with the "Droid" branding. More and more it is becoming commonplace to hear it which means that there is brand recognition. This is a GOOD thing.

Exactly. Droid Eris came out same time as Moto Droid
