What is MHL, on HDMI adapter ?

This is a HDMI adapter used for Galaxy S3, that is a cable which transfer your hd movies on large screen display.

What does word printed "MHL" mean? That is a port name or a data format?

it just allows you to plug in a phone / tablet and display that content mirrored on the screen. It will normally also charge the device while connected as a bonus
