What is landscape mode?

Landscape mode is when you turn your phone on the side and the screen reorients.

Settings -> Sound and Display -> Scroll down to Orientation and uncheck it.

Ah... Thank you so much. It was really ticking me off that I couldn't get the ChompSMS widget to work and all I had to do was turn the phone longways. Haha. Thanks again for the help.
