What is Blur?

So can someone explain to me what blur actually is? Had my X for nearly a month and I still don't actually know part of the software is blur.

Blur is the name for Motorola's custom UI ("skin") that they put over top of the Android OS. This skin contains Motorola's proprietary widgets. While the DX and D2 don't have Blur proper like the Cliq, Devour, etc., they do run a slightly modified version of the UI.

Different smartphone manufacturers have different UIs, or skins, that they overlay on top of Android. For example, Motorola has Blur, HTC has Sense, Samsung has Touchwiz, etc.
