What happened to my stock smileys

I use handcent and downloaded every thing they got, noticed people who don't have handcent wont get the smileys. I then go into my stock text message app and the stock smileys are gone?? Weird, so I then uninstall handcent, and stock smileys are gone still. Anyone else having this issue, I am rooted but know this is not the problem.

How are you checking for the smilies?

I found them with the stock text app, open up virtual keyboard and long press the smiley icon. Only problem I've found droid 1 people are getting the green head smiley, droid x people are just getting symbols.
