What does APN mean?

I'm using the app JuiceDefender and it always says that it's turning on APN when I turn my screen on. What does APN mean? I'd also like to know so I can customize JuiceDefender a bit more.

APN is Access Point Number (IIRC) and it's the route for your device to pick up its internet connection. VPN is "Virtual Private Network" - it's a way to create an encrypted tunnel through to a computer, say at your office and APN is part of the VPN setup. Hope that helps you.

What juice defeneder does for you is keeps all your apps from updating or syncying or w/e when you really don't need them too. This makes it so you dont waste battery life updating your weather or facebook info if your droid is locked in your pocket anyways.
