weird thing with alarm

So i use this for a alarm clock and every morning i leave the phone screen down on a plastic surface. Then when the alarm goes off i pic it up and the alarm starts sounding like a skipping cd and the phone turns off and then on. Im not sure why. Anyone else run into this?

I've had this happen on and off with MP3s I play since the ICS update, including those I set as alarm MP3s.
