Weird SD card issue!!!..Need Help!!!!!

Okay, the thing is, my phone wont detect my sd card. The gallery for instance says, that there are no photos available for viewing. And the cam says, please insert the SD card.
But the weird thing is, my file explorer can detect the SD card, and so can my movie player. I mean, I can still see and watch the movies in the movie folder. And I can access the pics from my file explorer.
But my media gallery, the cam, and the SD card settings say that the SD card is missing!!!!
I even removed it an inserted it back.....but its still the same!!!!
Its totally messed up!!!!!
Any clues so as to what went wrong????

make sure and try to recover your data on the card ,then format it and try again.....most phones ship with generic sd cards....don't expect them to last.......
