Weird missed call or text message icon, help!

Hello there, I an having an annoying issue with my samsung galaxy 2 phone. I bought this phone very recently and soon after I got it I am receiving a very weird icon that sometimes says I missed a call with a message under it saying I win a free ipad. the icon is either a red star or a green plus sign. Right now it says quiz prize $1000 and the message itself says play quick cash. This is in my notifications but I have never clicked on it once, I just clear it and it goes away for a while. I haven't installed anything outside the market but I fear this is a virus. Does anyone know how to get rid of this or have the same problem? Thanks in advance for any help given!

I doubt its a virus but there was a post about a battery extended app that cause things like this. I suggest looking at the last items installed and remove them to see which one stops it.
