Webtop Hack & Updates

I rooted the Bionic then did the Web Top Dock Hack. Unfortunately I was only on .886. Long story short, I was unable to OTA or manual update because of the Mod. I had to run BionicPathSaver and then do the .893, .901 updates and forever root. Good times but a bit of work just to run the webtop. That being said - webtop is slick and I'm thinking of doing it again now that the phone is current but if I do and a major update is released, I will have to start over again. I may end up spending the $30 for the stupid hichipucker but I will do it kicking and screaming. Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? Is there a way around this? Would a Nandroid backup before the hack work as a do-over if I need to update?

Yea just make a backup of your unaltered stock rooted system with all bloatware. When you want to update again just restore your backup.

Anyone ever try to take the .img file for webtop and run it on a pc? or maybe VM environment? I would like to try.
