Way to block OTA update without root?

Looks like I'll be getting my new DINC2 on Monday. I'm planning on rooting ASAP, but I'm concerned that VZW is going to push an update as soon as the phone is activated. From what I'm reading here on DF, I guess I don't want to end up with hboot99?
Is there any way to block the OTA updates before obtaining S-off?
Thanks-

Odds are if they are sending you a new Incredible 2 it will be updated already before even turning it on. I'd start looking for a way to downgrade, as you will probably have hboot 0.98.0000 installed already, which is currently unrootable.

I haven't heard of hboot 99. We have 0.97 and 0.98. If it comes with 2.3.4, which it may if it is new and almost certainly will if refurbished, then you will have to downgrade the hboot and then you can root. Here is a guide at xda - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298990

After you downgrade you just root with revolutionary.
