Wallpaper FAQ or tutorial

Rather than bug everyone here - can someone kindly point me to a tutorial or thread on downloading, installing, and creating wallpapers apart from the market?

I did a few searches and found the wallpapers forum with wallpapers to use - but no indicaton what to do with them.
