VZW's Galaxy S III Huge Update VRBMD3; Getting Several SGS4-Like Features

Owners of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII will soon have a reason to do a happy dance. Verizon just announced they will start sending a major update down the pipe which will offer a huge host of functions and upgrades.

Many of these new capabilities are some of the same features found in the new Galaxy S4, like multi-screen & multi-window multitasking, Best Shot camera mode, S Beam Auto Share Shot, and more. :icon_ banana:

Thanks for the tip, phil1166!

Nice! Even though I still have to wait for Beans or the Synergy team to update their ROMs. No amount of updates can get me back to the bloat.

Been researching the S3 for a while -- time to retire the D3 (no tears there) and try something new. Looks like a good time -- it'll hopefully keep up with the S4 for at least a year.

In all honesty, you won't see much difference between the phones, especially after the upgrade... Don't get me wrong both are high end phones, so either is a good choice..

About time! : )
I've had my S3 un-rooted and stock for a while now waiting for this upgrade. I want to see what the stock upgrade looks like before I root it again.

You know, the $50 (S3) vs. $199 (S4) was pretty much a no-brainer for me, but I just checked Amazon and the S4 with a contract renewal is down to $180. Makes the choice a bit more difficult!

I got this update just a little while ago.
One thing I did not really see in the release notes was performance improvements.
My S3 seems to be a lot snappier since the update.
Menus flow much more smoothly (not that they were bad before), going in and out of apps is faster.
I cannot wait to play with more of the features and see how they work.
Great update so far.

How did you get the update?

It is called a slow rollout, someone has to start getting it sooner rather than later. He really can't answer your question, all he knows is that he was chosen to get it sooner than others, that's all.

The reason I asked is becuase I didn't see it in ROMs, leaks or here about a soak test. So I was curious.

Here you go, I am rooted and unlocked and used the bloatfree deodex version, worked like a charm. I backed up my apps with Titanium backup, also did a complete backup using TWRP "location to my external micro SD card", just in case something went wrong, you might also want to flash the modem separately, it does comes with the deodex version, but I had some 920 error codes with some of my apps towards the end, so I booted into TWRP and flashed the modem itself separately.

I just got the rooted version cybertec69 posted and I'm loving it so far. I didn't update the S3 since I bought it from Swappa and I stupidly didn't check to see if it was up-to-date and rooted properly...I paid for that with 5 hours of utter frustration.

Glad it worked out for you.
