Voice search "to" doesnt' work

When I try to use voice search for texting or emails it skips over the "to" field and puts my contacts name in the message box. This happens no matter how speak. I've tried fast, slow, specific, trying just the "to" and still doesn't work. I watched the video and they make it look so easy. And when I try to call someone, it brings up everything on the web to do with my contacts name. Verizon has been no help!!
