You can easily view Word, Excel and PDF files without any additional software. If you want to edit, that's a different story. Then you need Documents to Go, but wait until it goes on sale (every couple of weeks) and don't pay full price for it. I think the regular price is $29.99, but it goes down to $9.99 regularly.

Download ASTRO File Manager (free in the Market) and you can explore your SD card just like you would a drive on a PC.

Can I use one of these programs to SAVE files I find online? When I have found websites that have info I want to download as a Word Doc or PDF or something I can't figure out how to save that to my phone for later reference...

Unfortunatly the docs to go never went on sale. The lite version is free, but I am unsure how to utiloze it.
