I have an icon for the camera but I would like to have one for the Video Recorder.

How can I do this?

Thanks

Is this even possible?

Not sure. I use BetterCut [Paid version of AnyCut] to make custom shortcuts, and it appears that the only choice you have for the camera is to pull up the camera itself, or open the gallery based on what's available in that app.

I'm thinking that maybe it's not setup to have a shortcut because it's just a flip of a switch from the camera.

I just tried leaving it set to video and returning home, then opening it again. The first time, it stayed on video, but the second time, it was back on camera.

Do you know exactly what root does?

Just thought I would ask.

Thanks

Haha! Oh boy...Rooting allows Root access. It's basically like having an administrator account on a computer. Allows you access to tinker with things that you don't ordinarily have access to. It voids your warranty if you can't get it back to stock before having to bring it to Verizon, but if you want to know more, start here...
