Verizon, Wireless Tether, and Froyo 2.2

Will verizon catch on if you tether? The thing is that I install the froyo 2.2 from verizon and it doesn't even let me overclock my phone. It keeps it as read mode only.

I've been using wireless tethering here and there ever since I got my phone about this time last year. Sometimes I use it to play xbox live and other times I use it for my laptop when I'm out and about(really not that often) and I've never ran into any problems with verizon.
