Verizon Wireless greeting

I'm a newbie to smart phones. I just bought a Droid 3. I can't figure out how to turn off the annoying Verizon Wireless greeting when my phone rings (says that first, then my ring tone rings) or its trying to connect to a network. Anyone have any ideas?
