It may be this system update from Verizon that was recently released for several different models.

I'm pretty sure my wife's Moto X has been in 4.4.4 for a while now. There is a new Verizon update that updates the system version that was released for quite a few phones.

Just confirmed that my wife's Moto X does have 4.4.4 and no new updates lately.

Edit: sorry, I meant to say no new OS updates lately, just the Verizon maintenance update that changed the system version.

I saw that system update come through last night on mine. It's not an update to the Android OS, just a Verizon system update. I honestly haven't noticed anything different.
