yeah thats a good question, I dont know never researched it, guess OP could talk to someone about it. Otherwise thats a waste of 199 dollars in IMHO

Interesting thread ... I have no answers.

As a Jeeper who spends time in really remote areas, I've heard good reports about the rather expensive Wilson antenna system, but never tried it ... been thinking about getting it ... I have no idea if it works on 3G, but mostly I just want to have a phone out there ... hope more people will chim in on this thread.

There's nothing you'd attach to the Droid. You'd have to use a repeater or amp as posted above. They're not specific to the Droid, FWIW.

I've been using the Wilson Sleek as we travel in our motorhome from Phoenix, eastbound on I-40, through some pretty sparse areas-- and am pretty impressed so far. The Sleek is a powered amplifier with a separate antenna (on a 12' cable), it has an attached cradle that will hold just about any type of cell phone. But, there's no direct connection to the cell phone, it just sits in the cradle, literally touching the amplifier (which is retransmitting the boosted signal, which is received by the phone).

Sounds like snake oil, I know, but guess what-- it works. One to two bars jumps to four when the Droid is put into the cradle. The downside, of course, is that you don't really want to be holding this contraption up to your head to make a phone call, you'll be wanting to use a headset of some sort.

I'm using it primarily with a Mifi, and it works great for that-- using the Mifi + Sleek, I was able to attend a web conference from a rest area in Texas, in an area showing only 1 bar of 1x service on the Droid.

It isn't a waste when you can barely get one bar in your house. No, it doesn't do 3G unfortunately, but it works great for voice. When I explained my problem at a Verizon store, they sold it to me at cost.

You do need an internet connection and set up the GPS antenna.

At cost? Mind saying what "at cost" was? I have the same no/1 bar situation at home but can't swing $199. Thanks.
