Valid email with shared calendars

Please help. I'm at the "so frustrated I'm going to start kicking babies" stage. So here goes: I want to link my calendar and my wife's so we can each access both calendars on our Droids (mine's a D2, hers is an X). So I go to Google, open up her calendar and share her calendar with me. I can access hers now. So far so good. Then I log onto my calendar and try to share with her. I put in her email address and Google comes back with "xxxx is not a valid email address". Anyone know what this is or how to get around it? My head is ready to explode from the frustration and Google has been completely unhelpful.
