Here's a big story that came in late Friday night. The USPTO made a preliminary ruling that Apple's multitouch patent is invalid. It was found invalid on all 20 points. It will now go through an appeals process, but is unlikely to be overturned. This will go a long way toward rectifying many of the lawsuits that Apple has been using as a weapon against its competitors. Perhaps this is a sign that the USPTO will finally start realizing that a lot of patents are overly broad in their wording. Wouldn't that be awesome?

It's awesome in that it will require Apple to compete in the marketplace rather than the courthouse.

Wow, I thought multi-touch was one of the patents that Apple actually deserved.
