Using LTE On/Off app, can't send SMS unless LTE is enabled (stock ICS rom)

If I use this app to disable LTE and use only 3G by selecting "EVDO only", I can receive text messages but I can't send them. If I try to send one, I immediately get a "message not sent" error. When I reenable LTE, I can send messages fine. Is this a known problem? On HashCode's CM9 port I can send/receive SMS messages just fine on 3G. Is there a workaround for this?

Did some googling and realized the setting I want is actually "CDMA auto (prl)". This does not have the issue described above.
