i just set up my yahoo account and noticed that a check mark is placed next to this option in the account settings. when i uncheck it and hit back, then go look at the settings again its checked again.
i also have gmail on my phone, which i use by default. what would be the purpose of this setting and why does it always default to checked ?

If I am understanding your question correctly they are two different settings.

It sounds like you are saying you have your gmail account set as the default email for when you contact people, that is independent of the setting you are seeing when you setup yahoo mail. Gmail has its own app separate from the email app you set yahoo up in. The email app where you setup yahoo can be configured for multiple accounts (example, mine is set to check my work email, my personal email, my yahoo email, and a separate account for a photography business I am trying to start.).

The default setting you saw in your yahoo account settings is for which account to use as the default if you just launch the email apparently and compose a message without going to one of your inboxes first.

i think you're making the situation more complicated than it is.

this has to do with the "Email" yellow icon, not the "Gmail" red icon. i already have a Gmail account set up and I use it. in light of a recent restore, my yahoo account info was not restored, so i did this just a few hours ago using "Email".

when in that account if you select menu and choose account settings, there is an option called "Default Account".

my question is: does this option make my Yahoo email the default that is used when i compose email throughout the OS ? if so, then why does that option always recheck itself after i uncheck it ?

I answered your question, I am also trying to explain why it is acting the way it is to clear up why the default account setting in yahoo stayed on when you tried to turn it off.

The short answer to your most basic question is this: no, the default account setting in the yellow email program settings for your yahoo account does not set yahoo up as the default throughout the OS.

The default account setting you saw in your yahoo settings is a setting for inside the yellow email app itself. It doesn't affect the system default app setting, the red gmail icon is actually a separate app, for email throughout the OS.

Does that make more sense?

No problem, sorry for coming across so gruff with my reply. I was trying to settle down my crabby 3 month old while typing on the Droid one handed. I stink at multitasking, I'll leave the multitasking to the Droid from now on I think ;).

Either way, the important thing is the question is resolved. Glad to help.

n/p.....

at the end of it all, i feel i should have stuck with Blackberry, RIM's OS design and stability is much better than Android I think.....
i guess on the plus side, Android has a better browsing experience and with Fennec coming soon, perhaps theres light at the end of the tunnel....he he
