Update Messed Me Up

I.just got the moat recent update to mu phone. After that happened I lost some of my contacts, and pictures. What happened, and how do I restore ? I'm clueless. Trying to avoid a trip to Verizon.

If you didn't backup your contacts with VZ's app or though Google then you're probably outback.
