"Update from external storage/update from ADB"

Newb needs help. When I wipe cache partition in recovery, in the blue screen the options to "Apply update from external storage" and "Apply update from ADB" are listed. Should I update them? What is their purpose? Thanks

If you click/choose those nothing will happen and it will ask you for a file. It's not an update like you're thinking. It's just another way of updating your phone, kind of like an OTA update. However, using those options requires you to download a file and place it on your external card or computer and push it via ADB. If your phone says "up to date" in settings - about phone - updates then you have nothing new to install.
