Unlock screen on 2.0.1

Just finally upgraded to 2.0.1 and can see what people are saying about it not being in the best of positions, particularly for one handed use. And given a choice, I probably would have stuck with the old one as well... but I still don't think it worth the amount of discussion it has garnered.

I'm not seeing the problem here. It's practically the same gesture to swipe it. And that itself isn't too ergonomic as far as crunching your thumb into your palm goes.

A perfect solution would be for it to have your thumb sweep from the bottom left to the upper right. Feels like a more natural motion when the phone is in your hand.

i just bypass it and use the pattern unlock feature...i like that one better....that has not changed due to the update...btw..i got my update this morning...

hmm, and what might that be:icon_exclaim:

you can set the droid to unlock with a pattern/series of dots on the screen you slide your finger over to unlock the phone....settings....location & security....require pattern...and you can tweak it to use a visible pattern or you can have tactile feedback on or off...i like the visible pattern and no feedback...

my two biggest gripes about the new lock are:

the animation isn't nearly as smooth. it jumps around and looks like worms running across your screen.

and also, it has these ugly "target" dots when you push either side of the lock (lock or mute). what's up with those? it's not like you have a choice of direction!

anyway, the wheel was way better. it was a little more original and i like how it spun when the phone was unlocking.

I think they need to incorporate a function that allows you to change your unlock screen to which ever one you want. Some like the Original unlocking method of the 1/8 circle, some like this single button (very iPhone like) slider unlock. I actually like the idea of a rotary style numerical unlock, kinda like a pad lock dial only with 10 numbers. just a thought tho.

I prefer the old one because for my hands, the motion was very natural and I didn't even have to look at the phone to unlock it. Now I need to make sure I put my thumb lower than it would usually be and drag it across the screen completely. Definately not difficult but it was better before. It would be great if Google would give us the option of choosing the screen.

I'm back, sorry I've been gone....

I'm having a much harder time answering calls with the new unlock. It's lower on the screen and your thumb doesn't naturally move that way - so it's much harder to hold the phone with stability. I wish there was a way to change it back.
Sorry I haven't been on much, I was the TC and I'm not participating much.
I agree, the reason why I'm complaining isn't because I don't think the "new" unlock is prettier, or easier to swipe... just quite simply, I usually unlock my phone with just one hand. Thus, the "rotary" style works better with the arc of a thumb swipe, rather than a horizontal slide. I've already tweeted to @DroidDoes and I've suggested that Motorola/Google/Verizon allow users to choose styles they like! That way everyone wins. How nice would it be to choose in the settings which unlock style works for you and "use" it. I know there are apps like Fly Screen, etc. but it would be nice if this choice was native in the OS.

Have you tried using a different part of your thumb? Instead of the tip of your finger, use your thumb joint (like when you make a "thumbs-up" sign and theres that bump/curve, if you don't know what I mean). It doesn't reach as far up on the phone as your fingertip, so maybe it will be easier for you? Idk, just a suggestion.

i feel the phone was much easier to open pre-patch, the arc to unlock the phone was pretty dead set with the arc of my thumb as i turned it.

i hope they make the unlock screen optional.

on a side note, the patch caused all my apps to force close every time i opened them. this occurs even after some apps have been updated. they also said this would make the phone faster and the battery last longer. if anything, the phone stays about the same but the battery life seems a bit shorter.

this patch gets a 0/10.

New one definitely looks slicker and is EASIER to do because you don't have to arc your swipe... not sure what you guys are talking about, it's definitely not harder...

How can anyone say either method is Hard to do? It's a simple finger swipe....
