so for unlimited data to stay i have to never upgrade my phone? if thats the case can i buy phones at like other places and then activate or will i loose my unlimited data

You just have to pay full retail to keep unlimited data. You can still buy from VZW, or anywhere else. Just not a subsidized phone. So no more $200-$300 new phones.

You can purchase used phones from third parties and keep unlimited data. That's my intention.
