I have the first gen Motorola Droid with Keyboard and 5MP camera.

Love the features, email, text, web browsing, gmail, contacts, calendar

However my phone has a few nasty problems which make me wish I had my old phone back.

1. Camera freezes phone. Grainy pictures. Ridiculous delay. Never closes. My old 2MP phone took better pictures.
2. Phone freezes, locks up or runs slow. The only way to get it back is to take the battery out.
3. Phone ghost dials the next number on the list after I end calls and dials random numbers when I pick it up from the charger. This really sucks.
4. Why doesn't every application have an exit option?

I went to the verizon store an he had me do a menu option that reset the phone. NO change.

Either there is an issue with the phone itself or something you have installed. I would start by clearing all data and cache and start from scratch.

Because it should run fine.

And if you're using a task killer or an antivirus, get rid of it.

If you go into Menu> Settings> About Phone, what ROM version does it show you?
I'm just fishing, but I can assure you that is not normal D1 behavior. I'm rooted, but my wife is not, and neither of our phones exhibit such nonsense.
You may be able to force an OTA update if you're showing ver2.2 or lower...?
