Turning the darn phone on and visual voicemail rant

Is there ANY bypass to pushing the power button before you get the slider screen?? This is so annoying... I would like to be able to push one of the bottom buttons to turn on the screen with the slider.. can this be done??

AND..

Visual voicemail, verizon version, why in the world does the phone not shut the screen off? I can't get through 30 seconds without my ear or finger hitting the screen and messing things up.

Thanks for letting me vent... this a great phone.... just trying to make it work for me a bit better..
