Turning off the text auto correction

Is there a way to turn this off? Ive turned it off in the, Settings > Keyboard and language.. But when im texting it still seems to be on, and it really hurts more than it helps.

You might be able to find a replacement on the Market that doesn't do all that.

If nothing else, the Swype keyboard doesn't auto-suggest, last I remember... and you don't have to do the swiping to input (it accepts chicken-pecking, too).
