Auto correction will not turn off

Can't get the auto correction to turn off.

MENU -> SETTINGS -> LANGUAGE & KEYBOARD -> TOUCH INPUT ->

then I unchecked the

Spell correction and Word completion.

Keyboard still auto corrects what I type!

Any suggestions or experiences.

Which keyboard? Stock?

Stock. QWERTY.

at the top is "prediction"; is that unchecked?

Yes, it is unchecked.

Strange, when Vertical the auto correct just shows a list to pick from.
When rotated side ways, the auto correct will replace what I type.
The work around, is to hit the 12# key and the auto correct list goes away. Then I hit Return and all is well.
