Turn off accelerometer

Is there anyway to turn off the droid's accelerometer? I am always lying on my bed doing stuff, and i get so annoyed when it switches to landscape... Is there anyway to easily turn it on and off like the Iphones?

Go to 'Settings' > 'Sound & Display' > 'Orientation' > un-check

yea. i unchecked it too 2 days after i bought it. gets pretty annoying. i like it how it automatically goes into lanscape if i open the keyboard

I to find it annoying how it switches to landscape mode however, I love the larger virtual keyboard. Anyway to switch to the landscape mode manually if the orientation is unchecked?

Which would then prevent the on screen keyboard he was asking about from showing up....
