Touchless controls question

How much use is this feature if you have to enter your passcode to unlock the phone for any of the apps that it launches to do their thing? Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I don't see how this works unless you have your phone set up to always be unlocked.

Not sure about the Moto Droid phones, but on the Moto X you can speak your pin to unlock your phone (I think this may be a Kit Kat thing). You can also set a reminder and make a phone call without unlocking.
