Ok, here is my question, I want a total backup of my phone. I want to try a few ROMs out. How do I make a complete backup so that if I want I can revert back towhat I currently have?

Root, d2 bootstrapper and use it to enter recovery. Chose backup/restore, and chose backup.

Ok got out and did a total backup. Now all I need is a zip file of a Rom and I can use the bootstrap to install it?

That's correct. Just be sure it is a d2g rom. And follow the instructions in the op of the rom.

Hexen is the most stable Rom for the D2G if your running froyo.
That's just my opinion.

You can also try apex rc3 for the global. I have been running it for a few weeks and love it. Cm7 is somewhate buggy and has some issues with settings sticking. I will post a link to apex shortly.

And if you are running GB, debloated stock is probably good enough. [Runs from all the CM7 lovers!]
Moto's gingerbread is really well done. Feels smoother than CM7 actually, wonder if they threw in hardware acceleration. It's noticeably smoother than ADW, as the scrolling actually starts smoothly when you transition home screens. With ADW, there's a bit of a hiccup. All it needs is native .flac decoding and I would've kept using it.

I think it still needs work. I just want a stable version, maybe ICS?
