I have an HTC Droid Eris. My Mail account is set-up so that my Comcast email gets forwarded to my phone. The problem is I can't stop the SPAM. I have spam filters and blocked senders in place through Outlook Express at home. I also put filters in place at the server level on the Comcast.net website. So why do I still get 20-30 spam emails on my phone. Viagra, Health Insurance, credit score offers, shopping deals...all day long. Sometimes I get the exact same ones even though I've blocked that exact sender and the exact name of the product in the spam filter. How is that possible? Does the forwarded email get re-routed after it gets to my Outlook folder at home or as soon as it hits Comcast.net? Are there settings I can change on my phone?

Well, you could route it though gmail but I would think that Comcrap would have their own spam filters.

Anyway if you run it through gmail it has a wonderful spam filter. I never get any of that garbage on my phone and when I do there is an option to report as spam.

You might want to give it a try. You would set it up in your gmail account in the settings on line.

Hey!
I have a Droid with a yahoo email account, and this has just starting happening to me in the last few days! I haven't entered my email address in anything new online that might have caused it, but I'm suddenly getting TONS of spam, when I used to get very little. And I've had my droid since December! Wish I could figure out what's causing it. I'm reporting everything as Spam but it's not doing any good. I have a business linked to this email, so I can't easily change to another address.

Any ideas?

G-mail does a fantastic job of filtering out SPAM. I NEVER see any come to my inbox.

Using filters in Outlook Express won't affect e-mail coming to your Droid. Outlook is it's own software on your computer. Mail is not pushed through Outlook and then to your Droid.... it would come from Comcast to your Droid.

I just gave one. I said try routing your mail through gmail as opposed to having it come directly to the phone.

Spam mail being sent from my phone?

I'm very careful about who I give my primary email too. Thats why I was surprised when my gmail account began receiving very odd spam.

The messages look like this:
"http://liznhgxg.resolvingflatf.info/ Clock by degrees and cheerful
Purpose to lose no opportunity. Glass and honour of silk stockings
Asked montague at last words had better"

Recently, I've been receiving delivery failure notifications from gmail for similar messages.

It's beginning to get really annoying. Could an app on my phone be sending these messages and/or revealing my email address to the spammer?

If you're using a mail client like Outlook, in general what happens in Outlook doesn't matter as Outlook is the last stop for mail. The mail on your Droid gets there directly from your server, not from your PC. Think about how you set up email account on your Droid. Do you ever tell the email app to access your PC?

I just setup my pop3 account through gmail. I've not used the gmail app much on my Droid X. Except for calander invites, etc to keep it on my gmail cal.

Anyway, I like it very much but the one thing I really wish it had would be able to easily delete ALL emails in a particular folder, such as the SPAM folder. Over time I can see that getting quite full. Would be cool to just click a button to select all and then delete. Otherwise, selecting a TON of individual mails would be teadious. click 20, then scroll, click 20 more, then scroll some more, etc. Vs... clicking select all and then click delete.

Is there such a feature and I'm just missing it?

Thanks,

Ben

Open your Yahoo account and look at settings, rules, or filters. Set that to forward ALL to your Gmail address.
