OK, guys, one more Droid X is rooted!! Thanks to everyone - so simple!

I used the updated version of the new one-click root - three exploits, three reboots - voila!

Next I used Bootstrap to make a back up, deleted a widget to try the process and used restore; rebooted, widget restored - excellente!

Then I used Titanium Backup to back up all market apps and system data - only THEN did I read this:
"Usually I just backup user apps, if you backup system data and restore it later on a different rom it will cause problems."

Oops! Dang it, I knew everything was going too smoothly!

Can I and should I delete this complete back up and just back up my apps?

How would I do that? Does it really matter?

TIA

What he said, but yes it is possible to delete the backup you made and make another one. I wouldn't sweat it, when restoring apps just look for the options above your app list and select app only instead of app+data
