Thunderbolt on it's way...

Hey all,

I decided to take the plunge and get a TB for my first android phone. I apologize if this has been answered already, but when I first boot it up, will I be prompted to do the update that has caused all these rebooting problems? If so, can I decline and wait for the new update (whenever that may be)?

I am not very tech savvy, and don't plan to root. I am prepared for crappy battery life, just hoping I don't regret my choice...

Thanks!

Welcome to the club! I may be mistaken but I would imagine if you are just ordering it that it would already have the update. If I would imagine you could decline it. When I updated mine I had to to check for an update and chose to download it, it wasn't an automatic thing.

The phone might come with it then again mine didn't accepted it and of course suffered random reboots here and there but since I rooted none at all, this phone is amazing roooted and unrooted you wont be disappointed

Rooted HTC Thunderbolt

Install this (the full RUU) as soon as you get the phone. I did - no reboots (the ones I did get were due to overtemps while charging) and GPS locks instantly.

Or, root and ROM.

Sorry for the dumb question, but this full RUU is not rooting, correct? (As I said, not tech savvy!) Would this void my warranty if I installed it?

Yes, you would remain unrooted. I think you're fine warranty wise.

I would do this also. I installed it on my phone and again had no reboots and GPS seemed to work better also.

This looks awesome! It said it'd wipe data tho...any idea what it wipes? I can't afford to lose contacts, etc. Thanks!

It will wipe your contacts but just make sure you run backup assistant or download lookout security and backup your contacts there, or just back up all your contacts to google and viola! You will never have to worry about losing your contacts ever again

P.S. I definitely recommend learning how to root, this phone just keeps getting better, and better!

If you have google account already on your phone then your contacts should be backed up with that and automatically install once you add your account when resetting up the phone and letting it sync.
