This is probably a lost cause but...

Things get lost and found all the time. If it is far from home and wandering it most likely is gone, especially if it is stolen.

is it possible to find a lost droid without software on it?
No, but have you tried calling your phone yet? I found a phone once and was surprised it took the owner a few hours to call his phone. I told him where I was and he came for it. I don't think he was expecting to get it back.

Probably want to change your gmail password now.

yea i tried calling it a lot of times and tried retracing my steps around here. it's pattern locked so i feel like it would take somebody a hard time to get into it anyway.

is there any way to activate the google latitude thing from your computer or something?

GPS can't be activated without something like Mobil Defense installed. Even then when I've checked it GPS came close but not quite to my house.

i bet technically verizon could dial it in and find it for you but i'm sure they would rather make money on you getting another one....
