This battery is killing me.

well i unplugged it like at 9am and didnt wake it up till like 3pm for my break at work..and i was surprised it still said 100% and display was at 5%

im running on my battery 1d-14hrs on single charge..its nice..i once had the display down to 5%
my phone won't stay in standby that long. sounds suspect. jk :)
i here ya. Damm, six hours until you first woke it up. Busy man at work. Yea, i get to many emails, texts, few phone calls i have to wake my phone up. Literally average 6,000 texts/month.

Should have been more specific.

While last unplugged for the 3h19mins.
Phone Idle 26%
Cell Standby 20%
Voice Calls 13%
Display 8%(Was in my pocket for almost the whole time)
Core Apps 8%
Android OS 6%
Facebook 5%
Beautiful Widgets 2%
Weather Channel 2%
Mediaserver 2%

I always have GPS and Wifi off. Hell I keep the autosync off too. And I set all apps I can to only sync when I refresh them. Maybe it's my battery. Tomorrow I will give a more detailed percentage since I will be using my phone from atleast 9am till 5:30. I know it will die if I use it how I want to (games, internet, ect) I'll let you all know around tomorrow.

Can you guys post some battery times and the percentages so I can get an idea of where I am falling.

I've never seen anyone post with phone idle and cell standby as the top battery drains, especially to be draining the battery in less than 4 hours.... something seems amiss. What's your reception/signal strength like where you spend most of your time?

I'm at 15hrs 47min up time and at 15% battery (just got the plug in notification).
Voice calls 30% (about 40min worth)
Display 30%
Phone idle 13%
cell standby 11%
Browser 6%
Android system 4%
calorie counter 3%
AndroidOS 2%
Media server 2%

Thank you for stating what everyone should know.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS - They don't take ANY significant amount of power unless you are actively using them. Don't bother turning them off and on - that likely takes more power than you would use.

As far as 8 hours - that's not bad if your using it alot. Why not buy a dock and put it in the dock when it's not actively being used.
ALWAYS turn GPS off. Nobody has any clue when what is used when with an Android device. perhaps some background app is using something. I always turn off GPS, WiFi (stops searching for access points on the road) and radio (same) when not using the items. If I could say safely they weren't being used, I wouldn't turn them off but I definitely get better battery life turning them off.

SSHGuru is right. No need to turn GPS off. You can tell that GPS isn't being used when you don't want it to be.... no GPS icon in the notification bar = no GPS being used. Simple.

And pyro, do you just use the stock battery indicator? Ever actually tested your battery status/output with an outside app? I ask because 80% battery left after 16.5 hours, even with little usage, does not sound right. I know I've heard of people having problems with their stock battery status (and market apps too actually) misreporting what % life they had left. If you really are getting that kind of battery life, you must have one ideal setup workin for you.

Oh and to the OP, what does your phone say is using the battery? (menu > settings > about phone > battery use)

Agreed on GPS. The only time your gps drains battery is when you're using a program that actively uses it (this includes google search, if you have location set on). Should be the same way with bluetooth. I'm not at all sure about Wi-Fi as I always have it off; but I would think it would continuously search for a signal.

I think menu > settings > about phone > battery use is often overlooked by a LOT of people. It's unbelievably useful!

It wasn't completely dead after those 4 hours. I had to charge the phone at 8pm, took it off at 10pm. Usually the display is up at the top. But never is it 8% It's usually 40 something and I have the brightness turned all the way down, and the timeout at like 10secs.

i get the same exact usage stats as you with

idle 28%
cell standby 23%
display 22%

mine is 16.5 hours since last unplugged, about 75-80% battery still remaining

phone idle: 34
cell standby: 26
display: 18
Mediaserver: 8
Android Sys: 6
SNESoid: 5
OS: 3

My battery, strangely enough, seems better than it was the first week or two that I bought it. It makes no sense, just casual observation. It's likely because of changes in settings

Alright. So I unplugged my phone at 9am. It was dead by 4pm. It didn't save my info for some reason so here is what I did. For about an hour I rearanged my home screens. After that I didn't really do much, I sat in my campus student center and I texted a few time but I didn't do much else. By my 4o'clock class the battery was dead. I didn't make any calls, go on the market or browse the internet. Seriously WTF? All the apps I have are rated 4 stars and above with no complaints of battery stealing. I think it may just be my battery.

You should check the "battery usage" section in the settings that'll give a better view of what's eating your battery. Even better you can download "Spare Parts" from the market and it'll even give you data for what's using battery and operating while the phone is on standby mode.

What's your signal strength like at school? A poor signal can really kill the battery.

I agree check signal strength. If it's not that then it's probably your battery.
