Themed apps/liberty mods/tweeks

Do I need to back up my apps before I install anything from the Liberty Toolbox then restore them after install?
I've tried to install gmail black and blacked out dolphin browser. Both times upon reboot it's like a fresh rom install, all my apps gone...but the font/battery icon are installed


Side note....
I haven't been able to get TiBu to ever work properly so upon installing Liberty 2.0.1 I had to re DL everything from Appbrain what am I doing wrong?

Disregard the first portion, its late....I must have had wipe data checked and didn't see it.... still not sure about titanium backup though
