Tonight my brother sent a text message to several people including me. I received his message as though it was a message just to me. I replied and thought all was good. A few minutes later I got about 10 other messages from the other receivers of the original message. when the other members of my family replied, their messages were sent to everyone that received the original message. Each message came in as a single message from the replier to the original message. I tried replying but was sending a single message to the one person who wrote the message I replied to.

The other members of my family have I phones 4 & 5. I have a Samsung droid charge. How do I get my phone to understand that the original message was sent to several people and to reply all? Do I need a new phone with Android 4+ or can this be done with Android 2.3.6?

Mike.

P.S. Please don't get on my case for having a 3.5 year old phone. I have Verizon's unlimited data plan and until I find a good replacement phone don't plan to upgrade.

What phone do you have? I use google hangouts for my SMS and MMS(group text and pics). Give it a try and see.

Make sure you have MMS enabled in your texting app

I have a Samsung Droid charge. I know MMS is enabled as had to tell the phone to download all the messages from the conversation. worse yet, every time the screen went off, so did cellular data. Does Google hangouts play well with text messages or just messages sent by others in hangouts? Also, I dont have google + account. All I want isto recieve messages in away that allows me to reply all.

This always happens to me when sending or receiving a group text to an iPhone user, even on my S5. Not sure why it does that.
Doesn't happen that often so I haven't bothered looking into it. :/

S5 tap'n

Group messaging. Great idea, poor execution.

Not sure about the stock texting app on the Charge, but in Hangouts, you can select to "leave this conversation," as well as having some options for each member of the group. It's quite handy.

I didn't play enough with Google's new Messenger app that's ONLY for texting, which may fit your needs better, but I would hope it's go some similar functionality.

I did some further research and found that group messaging was not integrated into android until 4.2. since I have 2.3.6, no dice. I then found out about SMS pro. It can supposedly can handle group texts. I will try it this week and see what happens. If there isa better app, let me know.

I know you said you didn't wanna hear about how old your phone is...

This is me not saying anything about how old your phone is...

You also might want to try Google Hangouts (not for anything else, just as the default SMS client). It solved this very issue on the first gen Moto X.

I'm thinking that if the Galaxy S 6 is good, I'll get a new phone. I'll try hangouts. thanks for the recommendation.
