text message notification - no sound

I have been through everything I can think of on the note 4 trying to get the notification sound to sound when I receive messages and its not working. Anyone have any suggestions? Tried stock message app and handcent... neither will sound. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi.....I have not heard of that issue......When you turn the volume up.....press the gear icon and make sure the notification volume is up.....that's my first thought...

Figured it out... it was the blocking mode turning off all notifications. Thanks though for the help!!
